I’ve been a programmer for nearly a decade since high school and will be finishing my degree in computer programming at George Brown College in April 2025. This program gave me a deeper understanding of the development process, learning about Agile philosophy, the full technology stack, and algorithms, just to name a few courses. It has also given me plenty of opportunities to create solo and group projects, allowing me to develop collaborative soft skills as well as hard technical skills.
The areas of programming that I am most interested are data structures and machine learning. I find it fascinating that improving computational performance not only lies in hardware, but also in the logic of the programmer behind it.
Prior to my degree in programming, I completed a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at the University of Waterloo. I chose a degree in science because I wanted to learn more about how the world worked, and the prospect of creating something novel in a hands-on environment.
I'm currently using this degree as a science teacher and tutor at the private school Canada Benson Academy. Throughout my life, I enjoyed learning about complex concepts and explaining them to others in a way that is easy to understand. This is something that has been with me prior to my teaching career, ever since high school.
I enjoy creating practical entities - either physical or virtual from simpler components. This includes but is not limited to molecules in the lab or software applications. Creating something practical that others can also find use in motivates me to continue learning and brainstorming.
That practicality doesn't always have to be a reason that is grandiose; one of my favorite passion projects is a resource material spreadsheet for the video game "Wuthering Waves".
I heavily oppose the gatekeeping of knowledge, and for personal projects, am willing to document or explain any discoveries and innovations. Open-source philosophy is something I find commendable, and I would also love to find like-minded individuals or projects who also believe in this freedom of information.
